Not much to say, other than an expansion is planned for general release mid January 2016.
Whether this is a "wave" of figs that we know that Heroscape got, or just a boxed set, is anyone's guess.
Hopefully we'll know more by spiel or PAX.
Regardless, its good news for this game that they are putting the hustle on expansions, and not keeping us waiting until next Gencon.
Let the guessing game begin!

Well since the boxed game just got its "official" release two days ago, it would make sense for whatever they release in January to be expansion(s) for it. Since they already have the Heroscape molds, making more terrain is easy. The actual figures are all original in the big box, even the summoned creatures all got their very own sculpts for each figure. So those sculptors need to have something else to work on, probably new figures! They already have all of the colors covered by at least one Planeswalker . I think an expansion for each color, including a new summoned army (Common) and a Spell card and a piece or two of additional terrain would do quite well. They may even make a " " expansion that anyone can use. It would sell quite well also, since anyone could easily add it to the boxed set.

I'm gonna guess that we'll see a few things. * A common squad for each color. * New rules covering instants, artifacts / artifact creatures and spell cards. * A dozen new spell cards for each color. 72 cards. 5 + . * comprehensive rules covering deck building, by that, I mean outlining card limits. * a few more minor pieces of hex terrain. This would make it a multiple purchase item.

We really need Los blocking terrain in this game. General rule commonly found for many wargames to balance out the of ranged combat is roughly 25% of the battlefield. I found this to be true of Heroscape as well. I am hoping that at least one terrain extension makes it in. Plastic terrain. Not card stock.

In comparison to Heroscape, Wave 1 was released in 2004 and the road + trees expansion was released in 2005. If the game is similarly successful I would guess it would take a similar timeframe to release new terrain expansions.
For now, you can use your Heroscape stuff as terrain for the best experience.

Wonderful! That is the best decision they could have made. It'll keep the scape players from jumping ship and will keep the cost down.

I am very happy they are not doing the expansions blind. I think that would have killed a lot of people's interest in the game.
I am interested to see how they do expansions. Will it be a big box, a lot of individual squads, or a planeswalker with a pre made army.
How did they do heroscape expansions?

Heroscape figs expansions came with a couple squads per pack, or a few heroes in a pack. You got 4 packs per wave.
Then they had terrain expansions that usually came with a squad. I find those squads to be a waste, as they were situational, and if you did want them then those terrain packs were the only way to get them, and if you didn't want them then it was space that could be occupied by more terrain. As you can tell, I am very much against squads included in terrain packs.
Other than that, and the heroes taking up 1/4 of the packs per wave, making buying multiples of those a wastw of money, or just product lying forever on store shelves, those are my only complaints in an otherwise decent way to release and distribute their expansions.

Heroes are usually unique, meaning you are limited to one of that hero. Buying more than one is pointless, so the hero packs were often unsold in stores for quite awhile. Or at least, didn't sell anywhere near as well as common squads who could be fielded in multiples.

I've been collecting and playing HeroScape from the beginning and I would still consider it among my all time favorite games. I completely agree with Yawgmoth's comments above. Hasbro did a lousy job at marketing HeroScape and I hope that they learned quite a few lessons from the experienced or else this M:AotP game is destined to follow a similar short-lived path.
When a new HS Wave was released they were always delivered to the stores in small cartons containing FOUR (4) packs (hmm, is it a coincidence that M:AotP is also being shipped with four games per carton?). Three of those packs contained squads. Sometimes they were unique as with the Samurai, but usually there were two common squads. Everyone wanted multiples of these packs to form large themed armies. For example in WAVE #1 "Malliddoon's Prophesy" ... Pack #1 gave you 2 common squads : 4 Roman Legionnaires at 50 pts. and 3 Roman Archers at 55 pts. Pack #2 gave you 2 common squads : 4 Blade Orc warriors at 40 pts. and 3 Arrow Orc archers at 40 pts. Pack #3 gave you 2 common squads : 3 Omnicron [robotic] Snipers at 100 pts. and 3 Venoc [snake-like] Vipers at 40 pts. Pack #4 gave you 1 unique Roman hero Marcus Decimus at 100 pts., 1 unique mounted Orc leader Tornak at 50 pts., 1 unique flying healer Kelda at 80 pts, 1 unique flying demonic looking warlord Taelord at 180 pts. [he served as a tease as what might be coming in the next Wave], and 1 awesome, giant snake with armor, the Venoc Warlord at 120 pts.
To build a 500 point Army for HS gaming purposes, the average player might need 3x Pack #1 and 1x Pack #4 - to have 21 Roman soldiers at 315 pts., plus 1 Roman leader at 100 pts., plus one of the 80 pt. figures like Raelyn from the basic Master Set as a filler. -OR- They might want 3x Pack #2 and 1x Pack #4 - to have 21 Orc warriors at 240 pts., plus 1 Orc leader at 50 pts., plus the 120 pt. Orc hero Grimnak as a powerful centerpiece, and also Ne-Gok-Sa a 90 filler unit, both from the Master Set. -OR- Some might choose to purchase only 5x Pack #3 - in order to put 15 Omnicron Snipers at 500 pts. on the battlefield and not have any leader figures or perhaps mix-&-match filler units from the Master Set, if only 3x or 4x Pack #3 could be afforded. -OR- A creative player might buy 7x Pack #3 and 1x Pack #4 - to have 21 Venoc Vipers at 280 pts., plus the Venoc Warlord 120 pts., and add Ne-Gok-Sa for 90 pts. or another 100 pt. filler unit from the Master Set.
Some idiots like myself eventually acquired ten or more of Packs #1, 2, and 3, but never more than two or three of Pack #4 the unique heroes. At some point the fans re-named the HeroScape to 'Squad-Scape' because common squads dominated the tournament scene, especially after more powerful squads like the Blastatrons, Marro Stingers, 4th Mass. Infantry, 10th British Regiment, Knights of Westron, Phantom Knights, Gladiators, Dwarven Axegrinders, and Zombies, etc. arrived on the scene. It was not unusual for players to own five of each of these.
All of the common squad packs would sell out quickly and only the unique Hero packs would be left on the store shelves to eventually be discounted. This was a big disappointment for anyone that came late to 'The Party,' since the after market eBay prices for single figures or squads was often double the price of what an entire pack originally cost. And having primarily all the unique heroes in your arsenal left you at a big disadvantage during competitive games.
I hope this clarifies the point that Yawgmoth was trying to make.

I don't want to think everyone is putting to much thought into this because there is no news as far as what will be released, but I think these gents got this on lock, they would have never made the attempt to pursue if they didn't know what they had seen previously. Awesome forecasting, but realistically they want to repair what was never in place. I think, and call me out, we are gona be happy with the release. Hell yeah with tracking and all but I don't think the brand would step into this realm if they didn't know what they were doing. So bouncing back to the gents that gave us the chance to relive heroscape again. Keep it going, follow what the fans want. Listen to us we are living it day in and day out, love you guys and everything you do...

It looks like Hasbro has not forgotten Heroscape, and now mentions it by name. It's official. Plus some expansion tidbits, but nothing we don't already know sadly.

If it all in one box it would have to be a big box expansion. I imagine the expansion would be broken into smaller chunks, but we will see in a bit with more info released. nteresting news.
