so in the Yu-Gi-Oh anime on episode 19 something like this game occurred were a card game transferred to something like a board game however on the board was a maze so my question is do you think that maybe taking pieces like the ruins and forming a maze would be a good idea or other variants on the game like king of the hill...

King of the hill being giant mountain, formed with many of the plastic landscape pieces, with maybe lots of the hexagonal upgrade pieces at the top

King of the hill being giant mountain, formed with many of the plastic landscape pieces, with maybe lots of the hexagonal upgrade pieces at the top King of the Hill could be interesting, but might favor certain armies more than others. Any PW that has figures with flying will get to the top much faster than other figures, since they do not need to count movement for going up levels. A figure with height advantage gets an extra attack (or defense) die during every battle. Double space figures will almost certainly go up the mountain slower than any other figures, since they must sit flat (both ends on same level hexes) to be able to end their movement. The victory conditions would need to specify how to determine the winner. Perhaps the winner is the figure at the greatest height at the time limit; but it would need a tiebreaker if more than one figure is at the same level at the turn limit. There may be a way to balance these different considerations. This could very well lead to an awesome battle! Thanks for providing an interesting idea!

Well sense as of right now the only flying and double space creatures are maybe they could cancel each other out but another problem could be just the amount of pieces needed to do such a thing which could be easily fixed after a while With the upgrades at the top plus the height advantage could make the game fun just as a last player wins. like the original game. possibly, the winner could be whoever is on top of the mountain or who gets there first for the run out of turns Scenario.

I like your idea of having a choice of ways to play scenarios on the battlefield. One scenario for the map is to kill the opposing PW, while an alternate scenario is to be crowned king of the hill. Begin by choosing which scenario to play. There are two additional flying units (PW Ob Nixilis and Kor Aeronaut Captain ) and one more double base figure (Eldrazi Ruinier) in the Battle for Zendikar expansion (January in stores, but Amazon now).

Ok so you could make a few rule changes, once the expansion is in, like flyers still take movement to clime. the double spaced creatures might have to be how they are. I am curious on your take of a maze idea. One possible problem would be Jaces illusions with his teleport ability making him even stronger, in a scenario like a maze, when hes already ,as far as ive seen, op.

There would need to be a few special rules for a maze situation as well. Since flying creatures would be involved, it might work to equip the maze with a 'glass ceiling' that would keep flying creatures from ignoring the maze and simply flying to the end point of the maze. Perhaps they can fly within the corridors of the maze but may not fly over the walls of the maze. You are also correct that the Illusionary Projections would need a special rule - perhaps there would need to be line of sight between Jace and the illusion to be able to make the swap.
I don't know how the maze worked in the Yu-Gi-Oh! episode. A maze can be tricky because we as the players can probably see where the end of the maze (or the goal of the maze) is located, but the figures inside the maze can not. Would players start at a common location and need to reach the end of the maze? Or would players start at separate locations and need to locate each other to be able to battle?
Designing the maze would be a challenge, especially since the game uses hexes. If a corridor is only one hex wide, the figures can only go single file, though it would be possible to change positions by choosing not to move a figure and letting another pass through. It would work much better to have the maze corridors be two hexes wide as then there would be room for movement. It the corridors became three hexes wide I wonder if the maze would end up very large, making it hard to play on because of the space needed.
I find the maze idea interesting and have spent some time thinking about ways to incorporate it into a battlefield. What if each player started at the end of a separate maze and had to get to the center area. Once at the center they must become the king of the hill to win?

players start at separate locations and need to locate each other to be able to battle. i like the line of sight for jace and i think that would hinder jace just enough to make the game fun. The glass roof would have to be there for the flyers. for the king of the hill with the maze that might be a long game but if that would be fine we could use the void rift battle field with the void being instead the mountain. i think a maze that incorporated one two and maybe three spaced corridors would be fun. building the maze would be difficult but i believe it could be done.

On a side note, if anyone who is reading this wants to put in a new idea, feel free.

I've been considering ways to map out a maze on the tiles, and it might be possible. The element that I have not figured out is a purpose for the maze. Since the players are not in sight of each other, they can not battle until they locate each other. Is there an incentive to reach the battlefield at the center of the maze before the other player? Is the maze just a delay to the start of the battle? If the first player to reach the center can select the best battle positions, the other player may have no incentive to reach the center at all, and could just wait at their start area.
Without a maze all of these situations still exist. Reaching a glyph before the other player, or reaching height before the other player are valid strategies, as is sitting back and waiting for the other player to come to you at your start area. I am also finding it hard to design a maze that would be about equal length for both players.

If you follow the link you will come to the dragons maze trailer now maybe the maze could include the guilds gates each with a glyph if a creature of yours reaches a glyph all creatures you control now permanently has that ability so even if that creature would move off its still in affect. so maybe at the middle is the end but only you planeswalker can enter in to the final hexagon and only after you achieve all ten glyphs. (you may have to drop the number) I think this may work.

I've developed a 3-player king of the hill variation and map. It is located in my Void Rift map thread in the first post. Details on the build are in the (I think) 13th post in the thread.
I am still considering how to incorporate the maze idea.

maybe we could incorporate the legendary creatures of each guild as heroes maybe Obzedat, sense he jumps in and out of the card game, could be the shadow+wall fusion in that he could jump to anywhere on the map using the wall but if you have to go to each guilds gate or some of the gates like the earlier post stated he would have to be limited. Another could be TROSTANI causes all creatures you control, besides to have the phoenix ability rebirth, only that it always happens once per turn. the planeswalkers that can control the legendary creatures cant have any other colors besides the ones represented on the hero card.

As a solution to the maze problem in the thread "Future expansions: What would you like to see?" in the general discussion area they discuss a possible unit a wall. Perhaps many 3 spaced wall units 4 or 5 terrain pieces high could be placed as the maze.
