Facing the fact that Hasbro has ended all support of this wonderful game and there is next to no chance of any future expansions, I began devising a plan for us as a community to produce expansion sets. Many users have been showcasing their ideas for custom spells, army cards and battlefield scenarios. These expansions should not impinge on this but instead be a collection of community designed features for the game. My suggestion for an appropriate naming scheme would be to follow the masterpiece sets released for MtG. In MtG masterpiece expansions were specifically themed sets of cards and this could be reflected in AotP to maintain a cohesive theme and prevent overcrowding of the design space. The proposed expansions are as follows: ZENDIKAR EXPEDITIONSTheme: Land Expansion of terrain variability, including hedrons and trees Thematic for the first hero creature (the only colour without one) Planeswalkers: Nissa Gideon (Innistrad was covered in the official Shadows over Innistrad expansion)KALADESH INVENTIONS Theme: Artifacts Artifact creatures, equipment, possibly vehicles The idea of mechincal production gives rise to the introduction of common squads Planeswalkers:
Chandra Ajani Dovin Tezzeret Saheeli AMONKHET INVOCATIONS Theme: Spells Possibly blank spell cards for greater deck variation A Bolas vs everyone else scenario titled 'Archenemy' Planeswalkers: Bolas Samut Liliana IXALAN EXPLORATIONS (a working title as there was no masterpiece set for Ixalan)Theme: Tribes Groups of dinosaurs, merfolk, pirates and vampires Perhaps the introduction of basic token creatures Planeswalkers: Hualti Vraska Angrath These cover the timeframe in MtG from Origins (the first AotP set) up until Ixalan. In total this will mean that the five origins planeswalkers will have had two versions and that there will be at least one planeswalker for every two colour combination. If you are interested in contributing to this effort please reply to this post with any extra skills you have to contribute, excluding general development as everyone will be involved in that. I can do graphics for cards and packaging.

I like this idea and i will contribute as long as i can.
Actually there is oficial zendikar expansion too. It as a small expansion so ours can be a small expansion too, to make it one. 1 or 2 PW maybe.
Bolas is a great challenge. I was thinking about giving him a card for a while but. 3 color is a great adventage and his stats should be high, because he is "NICOL BOLAS". Giving a cost to it will be a tough one. Maybe powerhouse with no extra abilities other than flying could be costable.
Starting with already existing PWs is may not be best decision. For example Chandra could be better at khaladesh and dominaria for gideon.

moon you're right, the Zendikar Expeditions set should be more about the land as in the card game and with the existence of the Battle for Zendikar expansion maybe less planeswalkers would be more appropriate. I'm thinking push Chandra into Kaladesh as you suggested but keep Gideon in Zendikar as Dominaria has a whole set of planeswalkers on its own. I shall leave a short time for people to register their interest before creating a Zendikar Expeditions thread to set to develop the details for that set.

I like this plan a lot however I don’t want to see any Planeswalker repeated. There are so many that we could ignite the spark of. I would like to see Garruk firstly and foremost as he’s the only og Planeswalker to not have a card and I think me Moon and I’m butchering this Tergateh have made food progress on him. I prepose; 1st: a mini expansion that includes Garruk and I feel like I remember Esplh the being the first plansewalker Maybe called Battle for Zendikar: Your sorry, There Late! Which in my plans I have created a hero creature for Garruk and including spell that create terrain could be included.(I really like that idea) 2nd: major 5 pw expansion Alara block , including the Bloas, and Tezzerts everyone wants. Alara could introduce artifacts along with Tezzerts 3 and on goes into you plan as now there will be base line for all mechanics you’ve stated.

joechamp the idea is to maintain continuity with the MtG storyline. As it is the only planeswalkers featured in the Zendikar sets have already had AotP versions. Jace has had a second version already which is where the thought process of two versions for the origins planeswalkers came from. Similarly Liliana seems like an obvious choice for Amonkhet. Because there has already been a Battle for Zendikar expansion, options are limited for planeswalkers but the idea of the set is to expand upon the terrain. Please do continue with other custom cards though, these expansions should not be the whole focus of the community.

Which card is better New jace or old Jace, and why? Now old Jace is amazing, but new Jace is just so much better. This is a question I’d like to see avoided if the community makes another Lilanna based on who she is and what she does is like to believe she’s be “better” making the old one an untouched card. I’d like to own no more untouched cards other than old Jace who I just can’t ever see myself having a reason to play, he cost more new Jace give you plus 25 to library which is huge for . Idk what would new Liliana do, deal with zombies better buff them more or even summon them, destroy creature better an more freely. Idk I’d be curious to see ideas but as said I’d like to see any time spent to adding rather than essentially redesigning

I agree that the game designers did not do a second Jace justice. However, new versions of existing planeswalkers should give alternative strategies of play with different themes.
After Zendikar Expeditions (which needs only a couple of planeswalkers) there is the scope for many new planeswalkers.

About second PWs there should be completely different features for a PW. Like one of the jaces let player to control another PW and second one enlarge the deck. These are totally different things. If there will be new versions of OG PWs, designers should consider that. For example. A liliana with no zombie synergy and instakill or nissa without range synergy. We should look these from a completely different point of view. If someone can do that, i am 100% ok with new ones.

I completely agree moon . For Zendikar Expeditions I was thinking along the lines of a land interaction Nissa with an ability to animate a piece of tree terrain along with an accompanying elemental hero, maybe based off of Ashaya.

Arcanis there are very limitid terrain items for now. There should be some trees to use them as a game component. I think you can mention about some of these in expansion.

Wow, great Idea! I'd like to contribute to that project as well!
I for my part tried to do some kind of expansion thing myself, wanting to incorporate parts of my Heroscape-Collection into AotP, which turned out into me wanting to make a campaign from the Battle for Zendikar into the Shadows over Innistrad Block. I've always wanted more Vampires, Angels, and Merfolk.
But I was afraid of going into a terrain-based style - actually only my ideas for the Merfolk incorporated terrain. But actually, my whole Idea for Oath of the Gatewatch took a tribal-approach (as it was mainly Eldrazi vs the other races) - but I'd like to see how "terrain" pans out
I second the concerns of moon and joechamp about second versions of the original Planeswalkers - but hey, we're here to brainstorm, aren't we?
A quick question: For the minis, will we try to delve deep into various styles of minis, or should we try to stay at the official Mtg releases, as there finally are some? I for my part live in Europe, and when I looked at the sources of the mini-figures for custom cards, I was like "how could I ever get any of these?"

Bro you live in Europe where still have some sources. I even live in Turkey a total empty space for all board game related stuff. Most of the time shipping cost is the twice as the cost of actual product. And it is very discouraging for a greate hoby.

I’ve made a balancing expansion which brings all colors to a evenly tiered place(from a design stand point). Have figs for everything, reaper minis and miniature gaints, check them out! If you do let me know so I can refer you and I think we both get cool stuff!

Hi, I'm glad to see there is a community alive for this awesome game!
Im a pretty decent mechanical engineer and good at artistic design and design for small production. I also love doing terrain and working on balance, while having a pretty good playtest group who loves board games. Im also pretty decent with project management and task identification
What do we need to do?

Would love to be involved with this project.
I can help do card templating (unless we already have what we need made into a file for ease of use). Project management, playtesting, balance work and a lot of the mechanical / AoTP grammatical consistency stuff. I enjoy tinkering with rules and making customs in general.

If any of my recent experience on this site is accurate to the site as a whole, you probably aren't going to find much activity other than yours truly <3 I think within the last month or two I've noticed three posts from users other than myself on here. And when I have responded to these individuals, they have never followed up (potentially because my answer is so enlightening that they simply have no ability to respond to such greatness, but who knows for sure?) The AotP Discord server run by Arcanis is by far the most lively thing that I have found (even compared to the Heroscapers Discord and the Heroscape site's AotP section) because Arcanis and ToyHandle have been pretty engaged there.
