The card Altar's Reap reads "Destroy a creature you control that's adjacent to a friendly Planeswalker. Remove up to 4 damage markers from that Planeswalker". When a player used the Spell "Altar's Reap" in the game Arena of the Planeswalkers, is the player casting Altar's Reap actually required to have "a creature adjacent to a friendly Planeswalker" in order to play this card? Or can the card be played and the second sentence still happens regardless of if the no creature was destroyed as stated in the first sentence? Thank you

You must be able to destroy an adjacent creature to be able to remove damage counters. Consider a game where there is more than one PW on the board. If it was not required to destroy an adjacent creature, any of the PWs could argue that the damage counters should be removed from their card.
