Healing Salve Sorcery Remove up to two damage markers from a friendly creature. Draw a card. Cost 10 Hope against Hope hidden enchantment Enchant unique Hero Flip Hope against Hope over when enchanted creature is attacked. At the start of enchanted hero's turn you may destroy Hope against Hope if you do, remove up to two damage markers from enchanted creature. Cost 20 My question is there some niche situation that using Hope against Hope would be better than healing salve. Right now it just seems to be a worse card altogether. It's more expensive, has a harder time to function, and it does less.

I can see the obfuscation of enchantments on a hero being a plus to make it hard for a precise targeting or guessing what the enchantment is by the enemy. Plus, its a heal that doesnt have to be played from hand immediately to work freeing your hand for other spells. Is it worth the ten extra points and more limited usage? Dunno. Have to play it a bunch to find out.

I'm assuming that this card is in the SoI set, which I do not have yet.
It is quite possible that this card was designed in the context of the SoI standalone. Not everyone is going to have both cards and that may have been what they thought fit best for those folks who only bought SoI. It is a common thing in MtG the card game to print eerily similar cards that are both better or worse than their predecessors.

There are some pros to hope against hope. It may only heal a hero, but you do not have to sacrifice it immediately after the flip. Therefore you can heal whenever you want.
And there are a few mind games to be played with hidden enchantments. My opponent may think it is the +5 defense "survive the night" hidden enchantment. He may do a meaningless attack instead of a full blown assault just to get rid of it. Buys me another turn with a healed Avacyn. And another turn with her can be a game changer.
I know it is a "what if" scenario. But at least it is a plausible what if... And it differentiates it from the healing salve spell. Playing healing salve on Avacyn does not stop my opponent from going full Rambo on her the next turn.

I'm glad cards like these are coming out. Right now, there aren't really enough hidden enchantments and people automatically know for pretty certain which one you have out. Now, like you said, there's an element of strategy and risk, which will improve as more and more expansions come out. Now JAce isn't the only one dominating hidden cards
