I have not gotten a copy of the game just yet, so I have not played it at all. That does not mean that I can't wish that each Planeswalker had 3 squads from which to choose when building an army. In the AD&D Board game Legend of Drizzt I located creatures molded in plastic. Here is an idea for a Unique squad. The squad contains three Drake figures. Possible figure source - AD&D Board game: Legend of Drizzt Hunting Drakes Swiftclaw Hunters Unique Squad - Drakes Swiftclaw (perhaps should be Creatures?) Cost - 80 Life 3 Move 5 Range 1 2 2 REND When a Hunting Drake's roll kills a defending figure, roll the 20-sided die. On a roll of 16 or higher, that Hunting Drake may make one Attack of Opportunity against a single defending figure.
REND When a Hunting Drake's Swiftclaw Hunters' normal attack kills a figure, roll the 20-sided die. On a roll of 16 or higher, that Hunting Drake Swiftclaw Hunter may roll one attack die against one other creature adjacent to Hunting Drake Swiftclaw Hunters. That creature does not roll defense. Rend is intended to be a minor version of a frenzy. An attack of Opportunity is normally made when a figure tries to move away from a figure it is engaged with. In this case, the intent is for the Drake to be able to roll a single die in an attempt to wound a second defending figure. I've tried to word it such that it would only be used once per Drake per turn, no matter how many defending figures are adjacent to the Drake. I am not certain if the Drakes are worth 80 points or not, perhaps they should be a 3

I like it. I might knock them down to 70. I'm not sure how to phrase Rend in terms the game uses. So far we have "leaving engagement attacks," but I haven't seen "attack of opportunity" in this game yet.

The group I play Heroscape with will sometimes use the phrase 'Attack of Opportunity' in place of 'Leaving Engagement Attack'. I forgot that as I wrote up the , and I would welcome a better choice of wording to covey the idea. I think I was more worried about making sure that it was clear that the could only be used once per turn, not once after every kill. My feeling is that allowing it to chain could be a problem. For the moment I set the points so the squad could simply replace one of the two existing choices. I expect that 70 is probably more appropriate and will probably adjust once I have the game to play.

Thoughts on re-wording this . It originally was: REND When a Hunting Drake's roll kills a defending figure, roll the 20-sided die. On a roll of 16 or higher, that Hunting Drake may make one Attack of Opportunity against a single defending figure. Would this wording be better: REND When a Hunting Drake's roll kills a defending figure, roll the 20-sided die. On a roll of 16 or higher, that Hunting Drake may make a single one die attack on one other adjacent defending figure. That figure does not receive a defense roll. I want Rend to affect only the original target and a single other defending figure. Since it is a squad of figures, each Drake would at most be able kill one figure and wound or kill a second figure.

On a roll of 16 or higher, that Hunting Drake may roll one attack die against one other creature that is adjacent to Hunting Drake. That creature does not receive a defense roll." I removed "figure" because that distinction includes planeswalkers. I did keep the first instance of figure there, just because if it kills a planeswalker, it should have a chance to be rewarded. While I think anything should be able to kill a planeswalker, not allowing your keystone fig a chance to defend makes hunting drakes potential maybe a bit too strong for a 27 point fig. I could be wrong though, but that's my gut instinct. Otherwise, just replace creature with figure and I think the wording is tightened up.

Very good! I know better than to use figure, but I used it anyway. Thanks for catching it!

How Frenzy should work? Should it roll full attack?

In Heroscape the term Frenzy typically gives a full additional turn - movement and attack - to the entire card of figures. Usually the player rolls a d20 to see if the squad with the Frenzy gets to use it.

"Rend When a Hunting Drake's attack kills a figure, roll the 20-sided die. On a roll of 16 or higher, that Hunting Drake may roll one attack die against one other creature that is adjacent to Hunting Drake. That creature does not receive a defense roll." I think I figured it out - Rend When a Hunting Drake's normal attack kills a figure, roll the 20-sided die. On a roll of 16 or higher, that Hunting Drake may roll one attack die against one other creature adjacent to Hunting Drake. That creature does not roll defense. I think this will simply explain that the effect only triggers on a attack. It Rend also kills a figure, that does NOT trigger an additional hit. Updating original post with new wording. Thanks all!

Have you play-test this yet?

I have played with this a bit, but not given it the card a thorough testing. I would be interested in any feedback if you give them a try. By the way, my nearby Target store had a package of 20 (or so) small dinosaurs in the $1 section, in yellow, , , and . Since there were several different dinsosaurs in each color, they worked pretty good as figures for this squad. With that bag of figures, this idea could be used for squads in different colors as well.

Thanks for letting me know. My thoughts were for a land based group, so they wouldn't be a squad. Perhaps I need to rename them as Hunting Raptors or something like that. Any suggestions?

In Eberron Velociraptors were called Clawfoots... maybe Swiftclaw Hunters?

I've noticed that few of the monster from AotP actually appear as MtG Monsters...
Fiery Hellcat comes to mind. *shrug*
